The opening song, now an Ed Sheeran ‘classic’ was ‘Castle on The Hill’ which was met with a rapturous cacophony of noise, screams, applause and general hysteria.
An amazing turnaround since his first appearance in Newcastle at The Cluny in 2011 where he played to a crowd of less than 100 people.
[bctt tweet=”Ed Sheeran rarely needs a backing band. With his now famous Looper Pedal and Iconic Guitar he is self sufficient. But, add in an audience of 50,000, who know every word of every tune and something very special becomes amazing!” username=”Darlo_Radio”]
This is exactly what happened as he traversed his playlist. Did he miss out your favourite? Maybe, but with a huge back catalogue he cannot sing them all.
Some artists struggle to maintain interest in their songs as they play them so often but no signs of that with Ed as he played each tune and filled them with emotion like a true Professional.
Then, it was over. We all wanted more and Ed delivered again with ‘Shape of You’ and ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’.

What did we think?
A great gig with James’ Park sold out.
Ed Sheeran still seems very grounded in-spite of his phenomenal success. He seemed to really enjoy interacting with the huge sell out audience throughout the gig. He joked encouraging all the ‘Dads’ and ‘boyfriends’ who were obviously just along for the ride..to join in clapping, shouting and singing. His confidence knows no bounds!
Standout songs. to be honest they all rocked and were thoroughly enjoyed judging by the enthusiastic reaction from everyone there.
For me if I was pushed. I’m a sucker for Galway Girl and Perfect.
Darlo Radio definitely recommends Ed Sheeran as a live act to see and if you are one of the few who have not already purchased his albums, be sure to add ‘Divide’ to your collection. It is full of musical gems.
He is truly an inspiration to all singer/songwriters and fans alike. Come back soon Ed!
What is your favourite Ed Sheeran song? Is he the best Singer/Songwriter of this century?
