It was Good Friday but it turned out to be a Great Friday with The Fratellis At The Academy.
A sell out crowd were treated to a non stop professional, slick performance from the band. Yes no long intermissions to kill the mood just lots of their greatest hits and many songs from their most recent album called ‘In Your Own Sweet Time’. The audience reacted favourably to songs from their latest album making it a must have in anyone’s music collection.

The night got underway with the classic ‘Henrietta’ from their debut album Costello Music with the crowd singing along to this and many other songs including ‘Whistle For The Choir’ and ‘Creeping’ to name a few, thus setting the mood for an amazing gig.
The atmosphere in the crowd was very lively and with Jon Fratelli in charge, looking very comfortable, he and the band proceeded to engage with the fans adding to the excitement of the crowd.

The final song was a cover of an old 60’s song called Runaround Sue which was met with much approval.
The Fratellis exited the stage and departed onto the next stage of their UK tour in Scotland.
What did I think?
The Fratellis have lost none of their talents for writing and songwriting and performing. This evening treating the amazing Newcastle O2 stage like they owned it, and they did, with an amazing performance.
Worth noting such is the popularity of the band that many of the crowd had traveled quite a distance to see them, I spoke to many from Darlington, Newton Aycliffe, Durham and all over the North East of England. They all rated the band as a must see for any fan of the Fratellis or the alternative rock genre. I really enjoyed The Fratellis At The Academy hope they return soon.
What do you think about the Fratellis album ‘In Your Own Sweet Time’? Could this be their best album?
