Joe Bonamassa
The Sage Newcastle
I was really excited to attend possibly the best gig of the year at the Sage. Joe Bonamassa and his band playing his now familiar English Blues Rock guitar riff driven music rocked the Sage.
Having learned from the masters such as B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Joe has the ability to not only play, sing but write amazing blues rock music and on the night Joe did not disappoint.
Les Paul in hand to name but a few guitars (he has many as an avid collector of guitars and guitar amps) the audience was treated to an amazing guitar driven performance from Joe who is now surely one of the best guitar players alive. Supported by the horn section and band the show was truly a treat for the adoring fans.
Song list included several new unreleased tracks such as ‘Evil Mama’ and ‘Just Cause You Can’ which hopefully will appear on a new album soon.
Of course devoted fans were treated to many stock favourites like ‘Last Kiss’ and ‘Asking Around For You’.
Joe is always experimenting with his music and on the night with an extended version of ‘How Many More Times’ captivating the audience.
The sound at the Sage was amazing and Joe and his band got the best out of it.
If you get a chance to see Joe Bonamassa live then I recommend you do so without delay. The tickets for most of his gigs sell out very quickly but costing over £100 they are a getting a bit on the pricey side. Value for money? Having paid £30 to see Joe at the 02 in Leeds about 7 years ago, it is still well worth it.
